Hat season is here!!

The weather is cooler (who am I kidding, it's been rubbish since July) and there is a smell of Autumn in the air - this means it's time to wear hats and therefore time to knit them.

I do, in fact, wear hats all year round, in the summer I wear them when it rains and when I am having the hair-day from hell, but autumn and winter are real hat wearing seasons, you can wear hats without sweating - never a good look and without people thinking you are weird. I wear them all day, whether I'm in or out, I have been known to wear them to bed on particularly chilly nights.

Hat knitting is addictive, they are projects which you can knit quickly, seeing instant progress and it's so hard to put them down - just one more round........

So my first hat for Autumn 2010 is the Brambles Beret from Knitty. Here's my rav project page. I chose some aran weight silk and lambswool from The Knitting Goddess. It's seriously lovely stuff - soft and very wooly, it smells like wool should but very rarely does (difficult to explain, you'll have to sniff it to understand).

Because of the silk content it won't tolerate exceptionally rough handling - I like to give a good tug when I'm working cables - probably not necessary, but I do it anyway - this yarn did not take kindly to this and snapped twice (I know I should have learned my lesson after the first time but I've got a short attention span!).

It's outside, blocking in the afternoon sun, I may join it shortly........
