Three's A Crowd

When I went to Wonderwool I bought 2 new spindles, one lovely wooden one and one inexpensive CD & dowel one. Because I am completely weak and empty spindles make me itch, I did the spinning equivalent of CAST ON ALL THE THINGS and now this is the situation I find myself in:

On the end is my orange spinning for socks, I really want to get this finished before Tour de Fleece (ever the optimist).





This is my lovely new spindle, I can't remember the name of the vendor but it spins really nicely. The fibre is from the Hilltop Cloud club, it's blossom-inspired and very pretty!





This the CD spindle, I bought it mainly for plying, I'll be able to fit more on to it so I won't end up with lots of little skeins, it's not great for spinning on but this fibre is AMAZING. It's Easyknits punk fluff, the colours are impossible to predict, I'm really excited about it but I might have to change spindles.


In my head it's totally reasonable to get one of these finished before 30th June so I can start something else for Tour de Fleece, in reality I keep doing a little bit on each so nothing will get finished, let's all hope for a miracle.

Eurovision!

Last Saturday was Eurovision - one of the highlights of the year for me and many others! There's nothing else quite like it, Eurovision is strange and magical beast that never fails to provide an evening of entertainment.

This year I noticed Superknits had some Eurovision inspired self-striping sock yarn and I bought one called 'My Lovely Horse'(Father Ted reference).





There were many fantastic moments and catchy tunes in this years contest, including a moonwalking bagpipe player and of course Jedward:



Sweden and Loreen were the worthy winners (lets not talk about the UK entry, it's better forgotten) and maybe Ellie predicted the victory when she knitted this fantastic Loreen:

I didn't get very far with my Eurovision socks but I love the way the yarn is knitting, especially the little bit of tonal variation in the turquoise stripe and the way that contrasts with the solid grey one.



Roll on next year! (and lets hope I've finished these socks by then!)

3KCBWDAY1 Colour Lovers

I do love colour, pretty much all colours (I've got a tiny problem with pink but I'm trying to overcome it) but my current colour obsession is still yellow.


I've talked quite recently about my love for yellow but luckily I've got even more yellow yarn to show you:





The obscenely bright ball of acrylic on the left was chosen by my sister, she wants a hat, people will see her coming from miles away (it's probalby better that way anyway). Next is a skein of Wollmeise which leans towards orange, then a lovely skein of Knitting Goddess with flashes of green and orange and finally a ball of Excelana which I love as much for the colourway name (powdered egg) as the delicate pastel shade. I'm trying to demonstrate that I love yellow in all it's permeations and shades, I love it completely and unconditionally.


Since I last blogged about yellow I started knitting this cardigan:





It's Miette by Andi Satterlund and I'm using Cascade 220, this cardigan will coordinate with the majority of my wardrobe and I've decided that if a knit a navy cardigan after this one and then a grey one after that, all my future wardrobe dilemmas will be solved! (Let's suspend reality just long enough to pretend I will finish one, never mind 3 garments).

Xylem Socks

The new Twist Collective is up and I've got a pattern in it: Xylem Socks (Ravelry page here).

They are knitted with BMFA Socks That Rock Lightweight in a beautiful green colour called 'The New Color of Love', its a lovely yarn with perfect stitch definition, I've been lucky enough to use it a few times lately and I love knitting with it.

The socks have a lace and twisted stitch pattern, my favourite part is the detail on the back of the leg and heel. I'm so proud to have a pattern in this edition of Twist alongside such stunning designs and beautiful styling and photography.

Xylem and phloem are two pairs of socks inspired by leaves for spring - you can never have too many green socks!

In my future there is a spinning wheel.

I've begun to knit with my hand-spun yarn and I'm in trouble.





I love knitting with it so much, I need more. I can't spin fast enough on my spindle. I need a spinning wheel.





The pattern is Trillian and it's one of those patterns where with a bit of maths (and a leap of faith) you can use every last bit of the yarn, I'm happy about this - I don't want to waste any of it.


I have to ration the time I spend on it because I have deadlines not looming but gently waving at me from the bottom of the garden. One more picture of the prettiness:





Also, I'm pretty sure I've lost one of my Van Gogh socks, I'm not that upset yet because I'm not 100% sure but I'm about 93% sure so fair warning there might be desolation on the horizon.
